From light to fan
Hello,
Recently I have enclosed by back patio and want to replace a light with a fan. Also, I would like to install multiple (4) recess lights in the patio. Is there a way to replace the current single light with a fan, then run 4 recess lights off of that circuit??
Thanks,
Joey

Do you want the fan to switch independantly of the lights? Can you run additional wiring from the switch to the new lights? Is there one romex cable in the switch box or two? These questions will help in directing the answer.

Answers to Ron's questions
Thanks for responding Ron, this is what I would like to do:
1.) Run fan/lights off of one switch.
2.) I would prefer to run wiring from the fan(splice) if possible.
3.) There is one romex cable.
Thanks,
Joey

First, replace the light with the fan. Before taking down the light, record all the connections. Then take down the light disconnecting only the two (or three if grounded) wires you need to get it down. Do not just disconnect everything in the light box and then wonder what to do next! And do not get alarmed if you see a white wire and a black wire connected together and try to "fix" it. And do not just connect all wires of the same color together, no matter what the directions on the fan say.
Now connect the fan's black and white wires to the same place the light's black and white wires were formerly connected. Do not overthink this. Just connect the fan as the light was connected, even if you don't understand it.
Then run a cable from the new fan to the first of your new lights. At the fan, connect this new cable to exactly the same two places that the fan is connected. Wire the rest of the lights daisy-chained off the first light, connecting all wires by color.
