Gas Pipe and BX Wire - What are the rules!

I am running a new 20 amp circuit for my home office using BX wire, going through steel joists in the ceiling. After opening few holes, I found a pretty narrow cavity in the plaster wall right next to a gas pipe, all the way from the ceiling to the floor. The wall is cement blocks so I don?t have many choices.

Can I use that cavity to run the BX wire to get to where the multioutlet assembly will be! If so, how far should the wire be from the pipe, and can they touch!

Thanks in advance.
