Straight Pipe on Ceiling Lamp Too Long

I am installing a new light fixture in my dining room, but the pipe that the bracket is attached to is to long to fit into the ceiling light socket.

Is there any way of shortening the pipe?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cool

If you're talking about a hollow all-thread rod, you can hacksaw it to the proper length, and then unscrew a nut off over the cut part to straighten the threads up at the cut.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the ideas. What I'd like to know is how do I remove the existing bracket that's attached with a nut.

I've tried loosening the nut, but it only goes so far, and the electrical cable doesn't budge either, so I'm worried that if I remove the cable from the thread piping I won't be able to re-insert it into the piping.

Right now the cable and the grounding wire are secured by a white plastic ring, which I assume is what's keeping the cables in place.

Thanks for the tips, keep 'em coming.

When you mention "ceiling lite socket" are you referring to the ceiling outlet box? It's possible the ceiling outlet box may be a "pancake"-type box without any depth for fixture stems, rods, etc.

Perhaps you could provide a more detailed description of the ceiling outlet box and the design/type of fixture.-----Good Luck!!!

Oh boy there are a lot of ways that this works??????what do you have. There is one that the pipe screws in to a metal like strap and is held there with 2 screws right there on the box??? take them off and the pipe and it should slide down off the wires for you?? like Patt said WHAT YA GOT THERE??????
