common VS ground
probably a stupid question here.....on a 220 volt gfi circuit, we have 2 hot legs, one common (white) and one ground (green). where do white and green hook up in the panel? i have 2 buss bars, one on either side of the breakers, but both white and non insulated existing wires hook to both. i had thought i would find all whites on one side and non insulated on the other
any help would be appreciated

If this is your main panel (not a sub-panel), it really doesn't matter. As you see in your panel, bare grounding wires and white-insulated neutral wires are intermixed on a common bus. Any panel downstream from your main panel these wires must be completely isolated from on another, but that doesn't sound like your situation.
I know that mixing grounds & neutrals confuses a lot of folks, but without going into a dissertation on the reason it's OK, just trust us and the NEC on this - it's OK.

ok
these 4 wires from the panel go to a gfci disconnect rated for 50 amps. on the other side of the disconnect is a hot tub i rewired all the controls to. my blower and pump are 115 volt, blacks coming off the contactors to the loads, green going to what i will call "case ground" as in the actual grounding lug, and the whites going to the white nuetral going to the buss in the gfci with the coiled white wire going to the breaker. then back to the main panel. does this sound right?
