install new light to old switch
I need help. I have a switch that controls one outlet. I just installed track lighting and want to run it to that switch. The switch is a 4 wire deal but the light is a 3 wire deal. how can I connect the light to the circuit so that the switch runs the light and the outlet? I tried to connect the light to the outlet side but it just stayed on with no switch control. I tried to connect it to the switch but nothing turned on. Someone please help.

Connecting it to the outlet was probably a much better idea.
When you describe the switch as a "4 wire deal", I assume that you are talking about a 3-way switch. If you give us a complete inventory of all the wires in the switch box (not just the ones connected to the switch) and how they were connected before you changed anything, we'll know a lot more. Also please do the same thing for the receptacle box.
It's obviously possible to do this with a new cable to the receptacle box. It may or may not be possible (probably not) with a new cable to the switch box.
