Exterior Outlet Kaput?

While trimming bushes I cut the extension cord to my electric clippers (not the power cord). I heard a small "pop" and the power went out on the outlet. I pushed the "R" and "T" buttons on the outlet (Rest and Test I assume), but still have no power. Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you check the circuitbreaker/fuse? when you pushed the reset button did it stay in? Check the circuitbreaker and then press the test button and watch what happens (if anything) Then press the reset button (does it stay in) now test the receptacle for power. let us know what you found.

Thanks. I'll check the circuit breaker. I pushed the reset and test buttons but neither button moved. Both buttons looked like they were already "pushed in." Maybe resetting the breaker will cause them to "pop out?"

It is not that uncommon for the circuit breaker to open if a GCFI trips. Especially since what you really did is equivalent to a short circuit rather then a ground fault.

Thanks for the advice. The breaker was tripped. I reset it and bingo...the power was back. Thanks again.
