Fluorescent Ceiling Light Pull Stuck

Fluorescent Ceiling Light Pull Stuck
Greetings,
We have a circular, fluorescent ceiling light fixture in our kitchen ... and someone pulled too hard on the light pull. As a result, we're unable to turn off the light ... and it's wasting electricity.
Can anyone advise how to fix this, step-by-step? Or, perhaps a referral to a published source that illustrates and describes the procedure?
Many thanks.

Are you thinking of replacing the fixture, or just the pull-chain switch? In either case, I'd start by turning off the circuit breaker that controls power to this light. Remove the screws that hold the fixture to the ceiling, and pull it down so that you can see the wiring. Take a few pictures or make good notes about what is connected to what. Use tape to label the wires if that will help. Then remove the wire nuts and take the fixture off the ceiling. At this point, I would take the whole fixture to a lighting store or home improvement store with a good lighting department. Ask for help securing a replacement fixture or switch. While you are at the home improvement center, pick up an illustrated book on home wiring (if you prefer, get one for free at your public library).
