Question Dimmer Switch not working...

I installed a dimmer switch...black to black , black to whites, grounds to grounds...tripped breaker and realized...whites go together...black wire from source goes to black wire on dimmer...other black wire from light goes to other black wire on dimmer

The light turns on ok...but does not dim...is it possible that I fried the dimmer when the breaker tripped?

thanks for the help, bob

Yes, highly probable. We've had many similar problems reported here. When you get very high current through a dimmer, it rarely survives.

yes, it was the dimmer...works great...my son is happy. His room is in the basement. It was wide open. He had no wall and door. So, I added a wall, door, separate switch, 2 lights , receptacle...all works like a charm...thanks for the help, bob
