My mother has a projection televison that was repaired last fall because it went dead. The repair person said it was a build up of power that causes the safety feature to shut down the TV. That is the best I can remember of his explanation. He says it "just happens" with these TV's. Well, it has just happened again. My mother thinks it is because of the central air conditioner. When the air conditioner turns on, there is a slight dimming of the lights. She thinks that a power surge is causing the problem with the TV. This is the second summer that she has been in this house, and it has never happened to her TV before that. Is it possible that she is right?
The house has 100 amp service with fuses. The air conditioner is a TRANE XL 80.

I'm a little skeptical of the repairman's explanation, but if the problem really is power surges, it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Get a good UPS--uninterruptable power supply--this will keep the power to the TV consistant. Seems to me to when the A/C starts, the TV would get a little less power, not more. At any rate is the UPS doesn't help, you can always use it on your computer.
