Lightbulb Running Sub Panel to Basement

Question. Looking on finishing the basement. Plan to run a Sub panel to the basement from the Garage. Plan to us about a 60 Amp breaker in garage and a 60 amp in the main box in the basement. What size wire should I use from the Main box in the Garage to the Basement? #12 or 14??

Neither #12 nor #14 is even remotely close to what is required. In most situations, 60 amps requires #6 copper. So just run 6/3 NM-B cable. If you plan on individual conductors in conduit instead, post back. And tell us how long the cable will need to be to reach between the panels. By the way, you don't need a 60-amp breaker in the subpanel in the basement.

Sub Panel in basement

The distance between the min breaker and the Sub panel is about 40ft.

Sub Panel in Basement

FYI:
I ran a piece of 1" PVC cond. to the Sub panel already.

If the conduit is continuous from panel to panel, then just run #6 copper THHN (three insulated wires, plus a #10 ground) through the conduit. Or, if you find it more convenient, run 6/3 NM-B, but don't run it through the conduit because the conduit isn't big enough. Just run it along the path of the conduit.
