removing a phone outlet

help!!!i want to cover up a phone outlet that i no longer use....can i just cut the wires and spackle over the opening...if not what do i have to do to avoid paying a phone guy to do it...

if you could email me i'd appreciate it....

you can do anything till you get caught

Phone lines are low voltage, when you cut them just make sure the copper tips dont touch or stay in contact with each other, it will cause buzzing static or may even short out the wires to where your others lines wont work.
ONLY IF IT IS YOUR OWN HOME AND NOT A RENTAL. the real owners may get up tight.
opps big after thought just take the cover off and push the conector into the wall. YOUR HOUSE MAY BE WIRED IN A LOOP FASHION IF YOU CUT THE WIRES there by disconecting other phone jacks inadvertenly.
but then why bother most dont look that bad you'll learn to ignor it.
