fishing cable wire through wall

we just moved in a new house built in around 2000 or 2001.
there is only one cable and one phone line in the whole house and that is in the living room downstairs. The house is a two story. I want to run cable and phone upstairs. The question is :
Would it be a straight shot from upstairs to the basement if I tried to fish the cable?

Please help
Thanks

Most likely you will have to drill through at the floor and ceiling or each level. And if they are exterior walls you will have to fish through the insulation. It is not as hard as it sounds if you are carefull and take your time and good measurements. Under most circumstances you will experience a small amount of damage to the drywall while trying to drill and fish but with carefull planning and taking your time it can be kept to a minimum. If you can arrange to come up through closets it is sometimes helpfull.
