Wall outlet doesn't work

I have a wall outlet that stopped working for some reason yesterday. I replaced it and it still doesn't work.

I checked the circuit breakers and they are all on. I decided to "check" for power by touching (I know, not smart) the two terminals on the opposite sides of the (new) outlet. Got the little jolt and concluded there is power in the line(s)

Everything that was plugged into the outlet works so it's not the TV or VCR that broke down.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

Go to your home improvement center and spend $8 on an outlet tester, the kind with two amber lights and one red light. Plug it into this receptacle and tell us what the readout is.
