What on earth?

I doing a little "bungalow archaeology" during our renovation, I've found the original bathroom cabinet door to the bathroom. RIght now, an ugly awkward prefab one was just hanging over what I could barely make out as a hole in the wall.
So. At 3 am one night, I took the cabinet off. And VOILA! Old cabinet space to fit door...except....
lazy electrician installed a "splicer box" in the space where the old cabinet was and covered it up with new cabinet. Where should this box be properly located? This doesn't seem like the right place.

And check out the story, with photos. Thanks! We are babes in the woods about this one.

It is possible that if you pop the wire nails you may have enough slack to move the box over clear of the cabinet, however, the new location will require a cover so the wires and box are not covered away into the wall. The current situation only meets code now because you can remove the present cabinet to expose it, but this is hardly meeting the intention of the code.
I think a new wire run would be best. You can separate the bathroom from the circuit it is now on (that probably serves other rooms) and bring it up to code(including GFCI outlets), without a blank electric cover marring your bathroom wall.
