Ceiling fan installation

Ceiling fan installation
Am installing ceiling fan with light kit (no remote). Have the following wires coming from house source out of ceiling: white, red, black and ground. Ceiling fan has blue, black, white and green (ground). Install instructions say connect white to white, blue and black from fan to black house wire and ground to ground. No mention of the red wire from house source. Help!! And thanks.

Sounds like the ceiling was prewired for a fan. As Ron says, connect black to black, blue to red, white to white, green to bare.
This advice only applies if you have exactly one of each color wire in your ceiling box. Post back if you have more than one of any one color of wire in the box.

I wired the blue (fan) to red (house supply), black to black, white to white and greens to grounds. Finished installing switch box and light kit. New problem: when I turn on the single light switch in the room, the ceiling fan light works fine but the actual fan does not. In the light switch, the switch has a red wire and a black wire wired to it but the three white wires coming into the light switch box are just capped off. Is the problem with the fan not working something else or is it the light switch box (yes, I did pull the chain for the fan while the light switch was on - nothing). If it is the light switch, can you tell me how to wire it so the fan works. Thanks.

Did you make any changes in the switch box, or are you just reporting what was there before?
You have said that the switch has a red and black wire connected to it. You have also said that there are three white wires connected to each other in the box. Is that a complete list of all the wires in the switch box? One red, one black, three whites? Any chance there might be one or two more black wires in the box somewhere?

I have not made any changes to the light switch box. You are correct - I was just reporting what I saw when I removed the plate.
I will open the box again tonight and post what I see, meaning if there are other wires in there besides the red and black that are connected to the switch, and the white wires that appear to be capped off. One thing I didn't mention earlier: I have two other ceiling fans in the house that the builder installed and each one has a double switch on the wall. One switch controls the fan, the other the light.
