Electrical-Timer

Hi, I'm replacing a wall switch for a ceiling light, with a timer. The timer has 3 wires. The double box contains an independently wired duplex and the light switch. There are only 2 wires coming into the box attached to the switch. Where do I get the "load" for the timer? thanks

I assume it is a mechanical spring timer? 2 black wires and a green ground? The load will be either one of the black wires. The timer doesnt know which is which. One feeds it and one is load. Just replace switch with the timer. The light is the "load".

Some timers require a neutral wire to operate. Could you describe the timer better? ie. make and model

receptacle wiring

I have a few questions. #1) I need to put a receptacle next to a switch that feeds an out side light. I believe the power comes into the switch and up to the light. There are two black wires on the switch and the white wires are connected together. ( there is only one set of wires going to the light) What do i need to do to get power to the receptacle? #2) I also need to put a receptacle next to a switch in a bathroom. I believe th power comes from the light down to the switch. ( only one set of wires at the switch) is it possible for me to power an outlet under these circumstances? If not what are my options? #3) Do all outlets outside need to be GFI? #4) last one . I have 3 outlets on my kitchen counter with no Gfi. How do i determine which outlet the power is coming into so I can put my GFI there? ThanksRead More

Waterfall power...

I am having a waterfall(small) installed in back of house. What I was looking to do is as follows. Already have a GFI outlet on back of house. I want to run a FLEX conduit underground and put a outlet on both ends. Then make a short 3ft cord to connect existing outlet on house with new one. Basically creating a long underground extension cord. Questions are, do I need to make sure the 3ft cord white/black wires are in certain positions or does it matter? Also, since I am running the FLEX conduit underground can I use regular indoor wire to run through it? What would the recommended Guage I use..14/2 or 12/2. And finally, do I need to make either end of the new run a GFI since the one on the side of the house already is? Ah heck one more question. Since the underground wire will only have power when I connect the jumper, should it be ok to just burry the flex conduit 5-6 inches down. Thanks:DRead More
