neat electrical boxes
Hoping to clear up some confusion in my mind about good electrical practices.
1) I need to clarify the 6 inch cable sticking out of the box requirement. Is it 6 inches from the clamp or once the cable exits the front of the box into the room?
2) When pushing recepticles/switches back into the box, what the best way to do so considering all the extra wire. I know you start with the gound first, then neutral and hot. I have also read you should bend the wire like an accordian. What do you all recommend?

1) I think the code just requires 6" past the clamp, but things will be a lot easier for you if you make it more like 6-8" past the front of the box.
2) Bend your wires into an "N" so they fold up neatly and that way the stress of pushing the device back into the box will be taken up by back of the device rather than the terminal screws. Helps to prevent loose connections from occuring.
Put the grounds in the back, the whites on one side, and black on the other.

Article 300.14: "At least 6 inches of free conductor, measured from the point in the box where it emerges from its raceway or cable sheath, shall be left at each outlet, junction, and switch point for splices or the connection of luminaries or devices. Where the opening to an outlet, junction, or switch point is less than 8 inches in any dimension, each conductor shall be long enough to extend at least 3 inches outside the opening."
