Power to Switch

I am currently adding a ceiling fan to a bedroom that has a swithc. The switch is just two lines in and then to the box in the ceiling. Additionally, included within the box in the ceiling are three other lines that enter, for a total of eight wires plus ground. All of the lines are either black or white. There are no three-way switches. I have power in all of the lines, with the exception of the switch line. Does anyone have any thoughts, as to why I do not have power to the switch? I belive that I have the lines correct (all of the white wires together, and all of the black lines together), or I would be popping the breaker. I do not have power at the switch, and the line is dead when the switch is off or in the on position. Additionally, I have tested the lines without a switch in place, and I still do not have any "juice" to the line. Any advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
