Success story!

Hi all!
I posted here about a week ago about a DIY project of putting an outlet in a closet, that I was converting to a media closet. I was a little intimidated after reading all the feedback but I dove in this past weekend. Other than the walls being framed erratically and having to put several holes in walls to find the wires - it wasn't bad at all! And the outlet works just fine! I just need to repaint the walls (cover the scars) and move the TV and game cube in there!

Shower steam sets off smoke alarm

We've got electric smoke alarms hardwired into the house. There's one on our bedroom ceiling about 2 feet from the bathroom door. For about the last month it goes off when we open the bathroom door after taking a shower. I assume it has to be steam setting it off. It is about 1.5 years old. I tried taking it down (just unhooked the plug in the back) and blow it out - I though maybe some dust coupled with steam was the problem. That didn't help. Any suggestions to making it stop? Should I just buy a new one?Read More

Wiring a Fluorsecent Light for My Garage

I have obtained a new four tube fluorescent light fixture that I would like to install in my garage. The fixture has four wires coming from the attached conduit: 1 white, 1 black, 1 red and 1 green. I believe that I should connect the wires to the same color that exists for the currently installed lights, but, I do not know what to do with the red wire. Where should the red wire be connected.
