is there a trick to getting old track lighting fixtures out?

i bought some new ones to update. god only knows how long thy've been there (but working fine). getting the darn things out is virtually impossible! a couple of them has little switch-like things on the side, which made it easy. most don't.

also, i'm having the same trouble getting the new ones in! they just don't want to turn. can anyone help? many thanks, paula.

As I recall, these twist a 1/4 turn to release.

Lost power to two outlets

Hi, I am new here and a new homeowner. I have some basic construction, plumbing, and electrical skills but I can't figure this one out. You all seem very helpful and knowledgable so I figured maybe someone here can help me out. I have all "new" electrical run through the house by the previous owner and so far so good, up until last night. Two of the outlets in the kitchen all of a sudden stopped working, circuit breakers didn't trip, all connections seem to be intact. We have had some pretty serious lightning storms up here this week but I don't think any of them were close enough to do anything. None of the other electronics were affected. Electrical storm problems

Someone help me please...two nights ago we had an electrical storm and a power outage. When the power came back on, my central A/C unit, water heater, and electric stove were not working (though the water heater zapped me when I tried to find the reset button). Replaced main 100 amp breaker, one side of which looked a little burnt, and double-pole 40 amp breaker (stupid breaker box isn't marked correctly). No luck. Everything else is working: lights, dishwasher, outlets, computer. What do I do now, short of spending a month's pay on an electrician? I live in an older mobile home, which means at the moment I'm roasting inside a metal box :(Read More
