Electrical Line For Pool

Help!!! I am having a new pool installed and the city has already passed the building phase. But I don't feel confident with it. The electrical line run from the breaker box isn't even 5 inches underground. How far underground is the line suppose to be buried? Also the line is being run along the baseboard of the house to the breaker box. Is this normal???

A very worried home owner.

I forgot to tell you that any public library will have a copy of the National Electric Code. Also your local electric company should be able to answer your question. Our local Electric Coop will send out an inspector for free any time one feels there might be a potentially hazardous situation.

Can I use metallic junction boxes w/PVC conduit?

Subject says it all...but here's more info...I'm installing a new fan in my frontroom where none existed before (there's nothing there, no power, no box, nothing). I had previously installed motion sensor lights outside. Since I ran a new 20A circuit for this I decided to tap into it for power to the new fan...in order to make my life a little easier in the future I wanted to run a few wires for "future" circuits and just leave them capped off in a box. To make it easy to pull the cable and to add even more if I decide to later I started using 1" PVC conduit (this is all inside). Problem is that Home Depot doesn't sell the connectors or boxes for 1" PVC conduit. Can I use metal boxes w/the PVC conduit? I suppose I have one other question...can I use liquid tight flexible PVC conduit in the attic connected to the rigid PVC and to a metal box (too hard to run rigid conduit in my attic)? Removing defective wiring from conduit

I have an underground metallic conduit that carries the circuit to my pool light. After feeling a slight shock in the water, only when the light is on, I began troubleshooting the light circuit. There are three wires running through the conduit. After disconnecting all three wires on both ends I performed a resistance test between the three wires. I am consistently reading 20K ohms between any of the individual wires. As a further test, I connected a GFCI receptical in place of the switch and connected the light circuit back to the load terminals on the GFCI and it immediately trips when I turn on the breaker. This happens even when the light fixture is disconnected at the pool end. I does not trip with only the GFCI connected to the line and the light circuit disconnected. Would the above test results indicate that I need to replace the wires in the underground conduit? If yes, what method could I use to pull out the old wires? They seem to be stuck.Read More
