Installation of pull ropes

I a in the process of putting in an underground service and the electricain did not install the pull ropes in the PVC pipes. Can someone describe to me how that is done so I can go ahead and do that to get the job completed?

Depending upon the size of the pipe, get something fluffy and light and tie it to a light string like kite cord. Use a shop vac to pull it through. You can use a plastic grocery bag on 4" PVC. Similar, but smaller for smaller pipe. It does not take much. I was surprised at what the shop vac will pull.

Then pull a heavier cord through.

Chfite's suggestion works werry well, If the conduit is good and nor real long a regular vacumn will work. Also home improvement stores sell an item called a Fish Tape in the electrical section. It is made of a small spring steel tape that can be pushed thru the conduit. Most rental yards will have them also for a few bucks.

Removing defective wiring from conduit

I have an underground metallic conduit that carries the circuit to my pool light. After feeling a slight shock in the water, only when the light is on, I began troubleshooting the light circuit. There are three wires running through the conduit. After disconnecting all three wires on both ends I performed a resistance test between the three wires. I am consistently reading 20K ohms between any of the individual wires. As a further test, I connected a GFCI receptical in place of the switch and connected the light circuit back to the load terminals on the GFCI and it immediately trips when I turn on the breaker. This happens even when the light fixture is disconnected at the pool end. I does not trip with only the GFCI connected to the line and the light circuit disconnected. Would the above test results indicate that I need to replace the wires in the underground conduit? If yes, what method could I use to pull out the old wires? They seem to be stuck.Read More

I just found this forum and am extremely impressed with the professionalism. Looking for some suggestions: We built a new house 4 years ago and 3 years ago I discovered a breaker that didn't seem to control anything. It's been turned off ever since. It has wiring connected to it, but I've tested every plug, light and appliance and have never found anything that isn't working with the breaker off. To make this post more book like... After the house was finished I discovered that there was no plug behind the washer. After arguing with the electrician and builder for days, I was told that the wiring was left out. I walked through the house every day as it was being built and I was sure the wiring was there. I video taped most of the other wiring and plumbing, but was interrupted just as I hit that wall so my video stops just short of the area where the plug should be (just my luck). So, I suspect there's a wire hanging loose in the wash room wall. I'd love to rub the electricians face in it plus I don't want to leave it that way if we ever decide to sell the house, but I'm not willing to pull down the wall or spend a fortune to hire an electrician to trace it. (Especially since the electrician already thinks I'm some kind of nut from the initial argument...) Any ideas on how I can do this myself? Thanks, TexassparkyRead More
