outdoor Gfi

Does all wiring done on the outside need to be UF (gray) if conduit is not used? I need to put a GFI recp. outside and the wire that is already there is regular romex. Thanks

NM cable may not be used in wet locations. Most places outdoors, including all underground conduit, are considered "wet". It is possible that a very protected spot under a porch might be considered "normally dry". It is also possible that some above-ground outdoor conduit would be considered "normally dry".

UF may be used underground. Unless specifically marked as sunlight-resistant, however, it may not be used where exposed to sunlight.

Not all UF cable is necessarily gray.
