Exhaust Fan/Light

I recently bought a new exhaust fan/light combo for my bathroom and when I went to install, I got a bit confused. When I unhooked the old fan (there was no light) I see that there are three wires from the switch; Black, white, and the ground. The problem is, that I have four wires to hook up from the new fan; two for the fan and two for the light. How should I hook these up, or is it even possible without doing some kind of rewiring? Should I forget the fan/light combo and just opt for a new fan?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!

Steve

From your switch you have only one hot lead. With your current configuration you won't be able to control the light and fan independently. So if you don't mind if the switch controls both, then you can install the new fixture. However, if you want independent control over the two, you will need to pull in a new 12/3 or 14/3 cable, depending on breaker size, and install another switch or a combination switch.

Exhasust Fan/Light

I'm not too worried if they do not work independantly. So basically I will be connecting one wire from both the light and the fan to black and the same thing to white?

Thanks again!!!!

Yes you will connect both fan and light hot leads to switch black and fan and light whites to switch white. Also make sure to connect your grounds.
