subpanel code question, kitchen

I was wondering if anyone would anticipate a code problem locating a 100 amp subpanel in a kitchen wall that is 25" long.

It is basicly the entrance to the room, and the only wall that will not have cabinets or countertops.

Behind this wall is a finished hall closet, so there would not be any exposure to combustables, just sheetrock and studs. If I can help picture the location better. As you enter the kitchen the panel would be on your right as you enter the room, on your left would be a floor to ceiling pantry, to the immediate left of the panel itself would be a double wall oven.

I would really appreciate any opinions, or thoughts. If you need more info please ask.

The assistance I have gotten in these forums has been invaluable in planning our project. We have been better able to work with our contractors, they have been tremendous to work with since we have a better grasp of all the facets. I just want to get a good grasp of the electrical end before I call my electician.

Code requires width of working space in front of panel to be 30". You mention a 25" wall. That will not work, unless I am not picturing the space correctly.

Thanks,
I was afraid of that. It is exactly 25 7/8, it is the side of a small hallway closet. Looks like I am pulling 6 12/3 + 1 14/3 + 1 6/3. In a hot attic, not fun.

While it is true that the code requires a working space about the panel of 30"wide and 36" out from the panel, most inspectors will allow that to calculated from other than center of the panel.
You say that your wall is 25" long and it is located next to the entryway to the kitchen so it is possible that you could locate the panel so that you could comply with the 30" rule using the entryway in the calculation.

I would suggest that you make a sketch of the area with the dimensions and go to the building dept. or call them and ask to fax the drawing to them and then review the drawing with an inspector over the phone. You may be able to do as you wish!!
