Attic fan motor needs replaced

The motor on my attic fan has died and I need to replace it. It was a 2.8 amp motor. When I went to get another one at Lowes the salesperson told me that I can no longer get a 2.8 amp motor (he said fire hazard) and would have to get a 4.0 amp motor (which they have in stock). Is he just trying to make a sale or is he right? This is a direct drive motor. 120v

The motor they have looks just like mine. and It will fit in the same bracket holder that the old one was in. How will a 4.0 amp motor be different from the 2.8.

Thanks

The guy at Lowe's is full of #*@! Take that motor to an electric motor shop, and have them find a suitable replacement. Most home centers are not set up to do an adequate job in selling parts. I'm surprised he didn't tell you to just buy a whole new fan (from them, of course!)
