change outlet wiring for can lights
I'm adding new can lights to a bedroom. The wall switch operates one outlet. I want the wall switch to work the can lights and have the outlet always be on.
The wall switch has 2 wires, one white and one black. The outlet has 4 sets of wires coming into the box for a total of 8 wires in the box. There are 3 black wires and 1 white wire wired together using a wire nut. The 4th black wire is wired to the top brass screw of the outlet. There is one white wire wired to the top silver screw of the outlet. There is a white wire wired to the bottom silver screw that is combined with the remaining 2 white wires using a wire nut.
What changes do I need to make the wall switch work the can lights and have the outlet always be on? I appreciate any responses to solve this problem.

At the receptacle, take all 4 white and wire nut them, pigtail to the receptacle, and all 4 blacks together, pigtail to receptacle.
At the switch: run a new cable out of the switch to your lights.
At the switch: blacks on the switch, whites wire nutted, grounds wire nutted, with a pigtail to the switch. What you are doing is making the receptacle always on, and the switch-loop into a feed-through switch for the hi-hats.
If you need more info/details, just ask.

Success Story!
Thanks Green Jacket for your response for wiring the receptacle and can lights. I completed the wiring this afternoon and enjoyed using the can lights this evening. The can lights certaintly brighten up the room that used to be so dark. Thanks, again for your help. This forum is terrific.
