Question outside garage wiring

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out? I have 12ga wire running to the garage. I have been able to get a light fixture to work but the light stays on all the time. What do I need to do to get a switch to work. Also running off this same box is all of the floor outlets as well. So if I hooked a switch up for the light would I not have power to the outlets if the switch was off? The wires coming in are white, black and copper ground. This had been working before but after I installed a garage door I needed to move the switch as the fixture was in the way of the overhead door. The wire inititally running this system had 4 wires white, black, red and a copper ground. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
