UFER or not to ufer is the ?
Hi All,
to start , sorry for the book. We are remodeling a barn into a house, it has an ariel service to it and has a ground rod imbedded in the earth below m/base. now half of the foundation is poured (floating foundation) we are going to pour the other half in about a month, I dont think there is a ufer in the first half of the poured crete. Do we have to install one in the half we are going to pour? and run the ground wire to the grounding rod? or just leave alone?
Thanks in advance
Craig

Installing a UFER is not required but if one is available you must use it. That having been said a "concrete encased electrode" is a great ground for a building. If you will have rebar in the footing that will be encased in at least two inches of concrete then just have the concrete people install a galvanized rebar that has been tied to the rest of the rebar with tie wire in several places. If this is stubbed up at a convenient location so that you can run a Grounding Electrode Conductor [EGC] to it you will have a truly good grounding system.
