4 outlets wont work.... help

hi, i need some help please. i have 4 outlets that dont work. one in the basement and the others in the garage. i flipped all of the switches in the fuse box (none of them were tripped) and they stay on. if it is not a short, than what else could it be? they were all just working fine ( for years) and nothing new was plugged in. what should i do?

well lets go easy early you said basement and garage. This would possibly indicate a tripped GFCI receptacle since they are required in these locations. So look for a receptacle with buttons on the face of it and see it the reset button is popped out if it is the push it in and hopefuly you are back in buisness if not then we will need lots more info.

I'll bet six apples that the GFCI in question is in the garage. Perhaps it's behind Grandma's chiffonier that you have stored out there next to the canoe.
