Unhappy connecting outlets in new construction

I have had the wires run in my new construction and have purchased the outlets and light switches to connect to the wiring. This might be scary to ask , but, how do you connect the wires to the outlets and light switches?? Which wires go to which screws!!!!

Sounds like you have very little electrical experience. If you had the wires run why are you having to install the devices??

At any rate, there are far too many variables in home wiring to be able to cover accurately here. While we can give you basics about wiring, like the fact that White wires are to be terminated on the silver colored screws of the receptacle and the black or red wires are to be terminated on the brass colored screws, there are several other things to consider.

For instance, is the wiring done so that you only have a white, black and a bare grounding wire at each receptacle? Are there any receptacles where there is a red wire present? Are all the switches single pole switches, meaning is there only one switch to control the light? Do you have any 3 way or 4 way switches?

It's not as easy as it might seem if you don't fully understand branch circuit wiring. There are several different ways to wire switches and receptacles. I would suggest that you go to your local homecenter or library and get one or several books on residential wiring and do some studying before attempting the task.

Sounds like this may be beyond you. If you want to attempt it www.homewiringandmore.com has many good drawings of switch and outlet connection.
