Ceiling Fan Pull Chain Wiring

I had to replace a pull chain light switch in a ceiling fan. I have forgotten, like a dumb sh*t, how it was wired and got no instructions with the replacement switch.

The old switch had only 2 black wires as did the old switch. I hooked one up to the black fan wire and one to the white and blew the breaker.

Also, any way to stop a fan from wobbling and making noise?

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

when you removed the old switch there should have been two wires(probably both the same color) that you disconnected from the switch. These are the only two wires that you need to use. Hook one to each of the black wires from the new switch. and put the white wire back exactly where you found it.

So are you saying to hook both of the black switch wires to the hot black wire?

No that is not what I said. when you removed the old switch you disconnected two wires (didn't you?) those two wires are the only two wires (besides the wires that may be on the new switch)that you should be dealing with. One of those wires should be going toward the ceiling and it should be the one spliced to the hot wire at the junction box.once you have identified that wire it should be connected to one of the wires on the new switch (it does not matter which one.) The second wire you disconnected from the old switch should be the same color as the first wire(but maybe not)and it should be connected to the fan. This second wire should be connected to the other wire on the new switch.
