Unhappy Electrical Upgrade

I am remodeling my kitchen in a house that was built in 1928. I called an electrician to wire the dishwasher and the disposal, and he said I must upgrade the house to at least a 100 A service. I understand this should be done for safety reasons, but the electrician said it would cost $4500 for the upgrade!!! This is as much as I have spent on the whole kitchen! Is this really how much it should cost???

It depends on what work needs to be done for the upgrade. The parts are less than $500 ususally. A standard no problem swap runs between $700-$1200.

Start calling some other electricians out of the yellow pages. That number sounds very high.

Upgrade to 200 while you are at it,, cost is very little more and then you are done.
