Wiring a new bathroom

I'm having a new bath put in on the 2nd floor and want to do the wiring myself. It's fairly straightforward except for getting the cable for the new circuit up to the 2nd story. I don't want to break into any walls or run the cable outside the house. I have a closet that I could run it through but am wondering if it's legal to do that? The closet is directly under an area in the attic just beside the new bathroom wall and would be a perfect solution. If it is legal, are there any issues I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Oh, as info, my plumber has run the sewer line through this same closet. If it is legal to run the wiring through the closet, are their proximity issues regarding the sewer line?

No problem with putting it in the closet, except that it must be protected from physical damage. This means you will probably need to sleeve the wire in conduit where it passes thru the closet.

It's okay. Be sure to provide some sort of physical protection for the cable (e.g., conduit, wiremold, building a chase in the corner). There are no proximity issues.
