under ground cable

I have to get a electrical cable(10-3) from my house out to my garage.
I understand that it has to be 18" underground.
Coming out from my house I will be under a deck, can the cable run on the underside of the deck and come down to the ground at the end of the deck and then go undergroun to the garage?
Cheers

The NEC table on burial depth has seven rows and five colums for a total of 35 different situations, with specific burial depths provided for each situations. So it's too simple to say that the cable needs to buried 18". If you can give us more information, we can help you decide the required depth.

Yes, you can attach it to the underside of the deck. I would sleeve it in conduit for physical protection. Protect it with the conduit until it reaches the bottom of the trench.
