2-Pole Breaker

I read somewhere that a 2-pole breaker is strictly for combining into a 240V circuit. Is this true? I need two separate 20A 120V circuits and have an empty 20A 2-pole breaker in the panel (the only available slot). Is it legal to wire them separately?

Thanks much!

Yes, certainly.

You may run two separate 120 volt circuits off a double pole breaker. Just be aware that a fault on one circuit will also open the other circuit.

Right. OK. That makes sense. Thanks much for the help (and all the help you guys have provided during this never-ending bathroom project of mine).
