I need a light for church flagpole
I'm looking for a place to purchase a metal halide outdoor light fixture for the flagpole at my church. I'm looking for something in the 150-250 watt range. These lights are pretty expensive around here. I need to buy this at as low cost as possible.
Thanks

So as not to run you down roads to nowhere, I'll ask what "pretty expensive" means. No sense in me pointing you to a resource and you chasing it down to find the price is the same or higher than your local source. FWIW Metal Halide lighting is pretty pricey, at least when compared to incandesent lighting. But, bear in mind that the added price is an upfront cost (as well as a cost when it's time to replace the bulb.) As far as cost of useage goes, Metal Halide has incandessant (and just about everything else) beat, hands down. They use less energy, have longer lamp life, and produce an excellent illumination that generally requires fewer lights than other lamp types.
Just out of curiosity, What is the height of the flag on this pole? And where in relation to the pole is the light to be located? Perhaps, given that info, I can help to optimize your lighting choice, maybe even save ya some bucks.

Thanks for reading my post and offering your help. This is a new pole I plan on installing as soon as I get everything together. It will be 30' tall and the light will have to be at the base of the pole. The units that I have looked at have all been $200.00 or more. I think this is alot but maybe I just don't realize that these really do cost that much.

OK, for the sake of simplicity (not to mention National level pricing) I checked my Home Depot web catalog. According to them, a 175 watt metal halide will set you back about $150. As a possible option, you could pickup a 300 W quartz halogen fixture for about $35.00. Lighting flags at 30 feet straight up, the MH would be ideal, but a 300W quartz will do the job nicely. If not, the same quartz fixture is rated for lamps up to 500W. (bulbs cost a bit more of course.) I'll dig around and see what else I can find. I do know of some factory direct lighting sources that may be able to cut you a good price. But, on a one fixture order, I would worry about shipping ocsts swallowing all of the savings.

I agree with everything CSelectric said.
Check ebay for your MH light. I have seen many of these, along with other types of used lights go for ridiculusly (sp?) low prices.
Just an idea, if $ is really tight.
