wiring a switch
A white & black wire plus ground go from the breaker box to the double wall switch in the kitchen. A 500 watt outdoor light containing a white, black & ground wire also come to the same double wall switch in the kitchen. A light over the kitchen sink is wired to a combination ceiling fan with light by a black, white & ground wire. This fan is located in the middle of the kitchen ceiling & is wired to another combo ceiling fan & light containing a black, white & ground wire which is approximately 5 feet away from the 1st one. The white, black & ground wire come from the light over the sink to the wall switch. My question is: how is the switch supposed to be wired? I want the 3 kitchen lights/fans to work off of one switch while the back yard light is to work off of the other switch. Remember, this is one switch with two switches built in or a combination switch I guess it's called. Please help!

In the switch box, you have three cables, each with a black wire, a white wire and a bare wire, right?
- Connect the three white wires to each other with a wire nut. Tuck these into the back of the box.
- Connect the three bare wires together with a green wire nut. One of the three bare wires will stick through the hole in the end of the green wire nut. Connect this to the green screw on the duplex switch.
- Connect the black wire from the breaker to either screw on the side of the switch that has the tab connecting the two screws. You will note that because of the tab, connecting this wire to either screw actually connects it to both screws.
- Connect the other two black wires to the two screws on the other side of the device.
