adding a light and switch

i would like to add a light and single pole switch to an existing box with a three way switch , is it possible. thank you

Maybe. But more often than not, no.

Shut off the breaker. Pull the 3-way switch out of the box without disconnecting any wires. Tell us all the wires in the box, both those connected to the switch and those not connected to the switch.

the box contains a black, red , white and ground wire , all connected to the switch, thanks for your help

Then the answer is "no", this is not possible. Find another source of power. An unswitched receptacle is usually a good choice.

thank you for your recent reply on the three way switch , i expect it will be the same for the four way which i am trying to add a single pole switch and light . i presently have a three wire + ground into the box and three wire + ground out to the light , the switch is wired 2 white and 2 red with the blacks wired together , guess i am still looking at adding another power source but thought i would check anyway. thanks
