Some (very few) really old houses don't have 240-volt service, but only 120-volt service. The fact that you do not currently have any 240-volt appliances makes it unclear.
If you do have 240-volt service, then here is the basic outline:
Note that this is not a project for a novice. Considerable dangers are involved. But if you have previously installed new 120-volt circuits, then this is not much different.
If you do have 240-volt service, then here is the basic outline:
- Put a 30-amp double-pole 240/120 volt breaker in an unused space in the panel.
- Run 10/3 NM-B cable (if NM is allowed in your city) from the panel to the location of the dryer.
- Install a four-hole 30-amp dryer receptacle in a box.
- Plug your dryer in.
