circuit problem/dish washer

Here's the issue: When my house was inspected, the dishwasher was not hooked up, so I requested that be done on the purchase contract. I tried the dishwasher on my final walkthrough and it worked. Moving in, I flipped a switch above the washer and heard a pop so I quickly shut it off. Now, the circuit breaker is off and won't flip back on and the dishwasher and two outlets no longer work. As someone with no prior electrical experience, is there anything I can do or should I call an expert?

i really suggest to call the electrcain on this one that sound like the wire are shorted out somewhere and you say dishwasher and 2 outlets not working that mean the wireing is not correct so get a pro there and get it right . ( did you hook up the dishwasher yourself?? or the pro did it ?? ) if the pro did that call them back to get it right

merci , marc

To reset a circuit breaker it must be moved all the way to the off position, then moved back on. The handle disconnects from the mechanism to prevent the breaker from being held on if the handle cannot move.
I would inspect the DW connection first before even trying to reset the breaker.
What does the switch control?
