20 Amp circuit question

Hello!!! new member here.

I have a question. I just bought a new home and am in the process of moving in. The utility room is wired with a 220 / 30 amp plug to accomodate an electric dryer. I own a gas dryer and have already ran a gas line for it. There is also a single 20 amp receptacle for a washing machine. My question is can i install a 20 amp duplex receptacle and run the gas dryer and the washer on that 20 amp circuit? Or do i need to go ahead and convert the exiiting 220 / 30 amp that was for an electric dryer to a 110/ 20 amp. What is the best way to solve my problem?

Many thanks in advance.

You do not need to convert the 30A recept.
The existing 120V 20A circuit will handle both the gas dryer and washing machine with plenty of capacity to spare.

Ron,

So the 20amp circuit will handle both machines running at the same time? I think the gas dryer motor draws 6 amps but do not know right off how much the washer draws.

Mine are both on the same circuit with no problem.

For your own peace of mind, find out the power required/recommended for the washer. Nothing beats the actual figures.
