lighting
Hello Folks, I have a 16x10 room that I am trying to lay the lighting out for. The ceiling is 8ft.
1) I am thinking of putting 2 cans on each side of the room.
2) The cans would be approx. 2ft from the side wall and 3ft from the end wall.
3) Was thinking about adding a ceiling fan/light in the center at 8x5. Although I only wanted to use this as an extra fixture on a seperate switch. Not for primary light
Do you think I have enough light with the 4 cans or do I need more??? The cans are 75w max bulbs. Thanks in advance for your help. Better ideas always welcome!!! Thanks Eric
p.s. can I put uncovered cans in a closet. Thanks!!!

A lot depends on how you plan to use the room. Without benefit of a center light, your planned layout will be very dim (avg. 12 footcandles by my software.) If this is a bedroom inwhich you plan to sleep, perhaps watch TV, then it would work. If you plan to do any reading, writing or other such tasks in the room, then you would need to roughly double the light output.
You could add additional cans along the long wall. (giving you two cans along each of the four walls.) You could also stick with the four cans and supplement light levels with the center light and/or table lamps.
There are many other suggestions and possibilities. To begin to suggest such things, I would need to know the type of room and what it will likely be used for.
