Question Trouble with thermostat

I went to change out my thermostats (5-wire style) and they don't work. I forgot to mark the wires when I took out the old thermostats but after changing them out I put the old ones back on and one of them worked. There is an air conditioner for the top floor and one for the bottom floor but now neither one works. Does anyone know how I can test the wires to make sure I have it wired right, or does anyone know what else could be my problem??? Thanks

You'd probably have better luck posting this over in the Heating and Cooling forum. However, thermostats wiring is normally color-coded and you usually just match the red wire to the screw marked "R", the yellow wire to the screw marked "Y", etc.

Paperclip if mercury switch type stat it is wired as follows

* RH - This wire comes from the 24VAC transformer on the heating system.
* RC - This wire comes from the 24VAC transformer on the air-conditioning system.
* W - This wire comes from the relay that turns on the heating system.
* Y - This wire comes from the relay that turns on the cooling system.
* G - This wire comes from the relay that turns on the fan.

W=white Y=yellow etc.

The link below will show you the thermostat and its connections

Good luck .....RL

Paperclip, as for RC and RH connections after connecting others. If asking thermostat to heat and air conditioning comes on, put wire on RH to RC and wire on RC to RH.....RL
