Chandelier works on and off

I have a chandelier with (5) 60 watt bulbs. There is a dimmer switch to turn this light on. This light works sometimes. The light will be on start to flicker than go off. After turning the switch off then back on it still will not turn on. After waiting some undertermined amount of time the light will work again. But will go off eventually. Maybe a minute maybe an hour. I changed out two of the sockets thinking that maybe the sockets went bad. After changing out the first one it appeared to solve the problem. The light stayed on for hours after I switched the first socket. The next day it started acting up again. So I changed out another socket but still have the same problem. Am I going about this the right way or am I missing something all together.

Put in a new dimmer. Make sure it's rated for at least 600 watts.

If you want to experiment before you buy the dimmer, then put a regular switch there for a while.

Make sure you buy good quality bulbs. Cheap bulbs often don't work well with a dimmer.
