power goes out

THE POWER GOES COMPLETELY OUT IN ONE ROOM OF MY HOUSE AND AFTER A FEW MUNUTES RETURNS/ WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!

Turn off your caps. You don't need to yell.

Power going off/on is probably a loose connection. It could be anywhere from the breaker to a junction box somewhere on the circuit.
If there are more than one circuit going out it could be the POCO's problem in the wires or meterbase coing to your house.

When the power goes out, does it go out to both lighting and receptacles? Just lighting? Just receptacles? Which room is it?

Then I agree with Joe. Start looking for the bad connection. It's a lot of work. Search this forum for the word "backstab" for additional information.

Problem installing outdoor flood lights

I am trying to replace an existing outdoor light with a motion detector flood light. The problem I have is that the old light has a smaller round mounting base than the flood lights. The current configuration is a square junction box with some type of round adapter deal sticking out of it and then a siding cover that snaps on over that. I have included pictures here. I would still use the seal gasket between the light base and the siding cover. The light would not be directly connected to the box in anyway except for the ground wire. Am I asking for trouble this way or does this sound ok? I would like to be able to install the light without ripping out the old box which I think would be a lot more difficult than just putting in a new box since there is a big square section cut out of the siding.Read More

Power to a dimmer for tracklighting

I have an existing switchbox that controls a baseboard outlet (two blacks to my dimmer - whites bundled). I have tried to pigtail a 12ga. jumper from the whites and one leg of the black to an adjacent box. That box will control via dimmer, a ceiling track for lighting. I installed the ceiling box attaching black to black, white to white and ground to ground. Ran the romex down to the new junction box on the wall near the old existing box. I connected the two whites (one from the ceiling box, one from the jumper) and used the two blacks (one from the ceiling and one from the jumper) on each terminal of my dimmer. NO DICE. Note: using a tester I get dim results across the two blacks and bright results if I connect the bundled whites and the hot black leg. What gives? Please help. I know just enough to be dangerous.
