can you drill your own holes in plastic boxes?
The person im working with would like to drill out a hole for the entry of bx cable in a plastic box. There is a pre made punchout we could use already there in the back of the box but they would perfer to come in from the side of the box to take up less room in the closet... {were running this in the back of a closet}
according to code can you drill holes in a plastic box on the sides or must you use premade cuttouts?
any help apprecciated ty

ok we have a ground wire (green) in place
ok your kinda of hitting on another question I have...
or confusion i have hehe..
Im running it in bx because it will be exposed in the back of the closet so I was told you must use armored cable when exposed....
I also realize that part of the ground on bx has to do with attaching to a metal box..
but in my situation (since we have a ground) is it ok to use plastic boxes with the bx?
and if so , then back to original question can you drill the hole in the side of the box...
Ty for replies and help

The armor of the AC must be grounded. The fact that you have another ground for the circuit does not eliminate the need to ground the armor. Why not just use a metal box?
I have never had an AHJ object to sing a Greenlee punch to add/move a hole in a panel, but I have never needed to do the same for a junction box.

first off ty for replys brickeyee
problem is were attaching boxes to plywood on the back of a closet (no stud) and local hd didnt have any double metal boxes that would attach to back of wall with no studs.... I guess we could do 2 single metal boxes but grr hole already cut for plastic one so im wondering if this is ok
the connection we have now is coming from a grounded metal junction box to the plastic box... would that meet requirement for grounding the bx cable?
in other words grounded metal to plastic box using bx ok? or do they both need to be metal?
Thanks for all the help!

Not %100 sure if i understand the entire detail but it sounds like plastic boxes do not mix with metal raceways...
Ty for info I guess we need to go metal...
