Distribution box or what?

I am running a line (220) from my house (main control box) to my barn. I am a little confused by the "Box's" I need, meaning the box at the house is the main junction that sends out and controls the circuits to various things such as lighting, well, kitchen, etc..
The line will run from this box to a box in the barn (100 Amp, 6 circuits) that will be fused circuits such as lightning and various other lines.
Is the box I am talking about at the barn called a distribution box, a main lug box or what?
My reason for asking is when I view them at Lowe's they have 100 Amp boxes from $20.00 to $50.00, what is the difference?
Please expound to your hearts content.

The box in your house is what we normally call the "main panel" (assuming you don't have any others), and the box in the barn is what we normally call a "subpanel".

Whether or not your subpanel needs a main breaker depends on how many circuits you will put in it (with six circuits or less, you do not need a main breaker in the subpanel). This will influence the cost of the panel, as well as the brand (e.g. SquareD), the product line within brand (e.g., HomeLine), the number of spaces, and the maximum number of breakers. Some panels come with separate neutral and grounding bars, and on others you must buy the grounding bar separately.

John, great reply, I understand. Can You recommend a brand with a grounding bar I can buy at Lowe's?
Sorry to be so short, broke my left hand last night, typing one handed.

Even within brand, some come with the grounding bar and some don't. You just have to look. Even if it doesn't, a grounding bar kit only cost about five bucks.
