220 vs 110 light fixtures.
I have some 220 fluorescent light fixtures I want to put in my Barn. They are heavy (flush mount) commercial fixtures I removed from a renovation project in a building I used to work in. Is there any advantage to using these over new 110 unit fixtures?

Check the ballast before you install them and hook them up. These lights often were used on a high leg 3 phase system. The middle of one phase is grounded to produce a 120/240 V pair. The other two phases of 120 close the delta connection and leave a 270 V high point to the grounded conductor. The setup allowed for 3 phase 120 V motor loads and made a 120/240 V phase available for more typical appliances.

i did see few old 240 volts magantic ballast but kinda of rare item, however the new electronic ballast some of them have multi voltage connection there (120,208,240,277 volts) but best thing is to do is inspect the wiring in the fixure make sure they are not stiff [ that can lead a short or destory ballast] but very few ballast manufactures still make 240 volt verison but i will say this again this is rare item most common is both 120 and 277 are widespred item now days
if need more question just post back here i will try to explain it more
