lampost

I'm having problems with the bulbs burning out in my lamppost. They only last a few days. How do I determine If the wiring is bad or the lamp socket or is ther any thing else I should check? Thanks

Are you using the proper wattage? Too high a wattage will cause the bulb to fail from overheating.

I recommend Sylvania double-life bulbs. Or find another high-quality bulb marked "130v". Also make sure that the bulb stays dry, even in the rain. Then stop that neighborhood kid from banging the post every time he walks by.

It is remotely possible that your post has excessively high voltage, which you could check with a voltmeter.

Good afternoon Tom. Another problem I have found with exterior lights is a build up of junk in the lamp socket itself. This comes from insects and birds over a period of time. You'd be surprised how much builds up and it can actually keep the contact of the bulb from touching the receptacle contact and cause a high resistance and/or arcing. Check the socket and vacuum out the crud under the bulb.
Might help.
Have a good day.
